The Austin Graduate School of Theology
hosted 100 church leaders from
around the country for its 27th Annual Sermon Seminar May 19-22.
The seminar provided in-depth study of the scripture along with
practical suggestions on how to
teach and preach the text.
“The Sermon Seminar is the best seminar I have attended in helping
me to preach the Word of
God,” said Chris Vidacovich of Kilgore, Texas. “The
speakers are outstanding scholars who
share their knowledge in practical and applicable ways. It
also gives me the opportunity to spend
time with other ministers of the Gospel as we share ideas
together. I will use the information and
knowledge I gained for years to come.”
This was the first year the seminar was held in the school’s
new facility which was designed with
the seminar in mind. The seminar utilized two large rooms
in the 27,000 sq ft facility; one for
lecture program and the other for breakfast and lunch programs.
This year’s sessions covered how to preach from Hebrews,
Galatians, Amos, and Genesis 12-50. The speakers were Dwight
Robarts of the Skillman Ave Church of Christ in Dallas, Dr.
Jeffery Peterson of Austin Graduate School of Theology, Dr. Mark
Hamilton of Abilene
Christian University, and Dr. Rick Marrs of Pepperdine, respectively.
Special lunch
presentations were made by Eddie Sharp of the University Church
in Abilene. CD’s of the
sessions can be ordered by visiting www.austingrad.edu.
Next year’s seminar will be held May 18-21, 2009.
Speakers will include Ben Witherington III,
Harold Shank, and Stan Reid.
