| DESCRIPTION
The Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies,
a liberal arts degree, is especially suited for those pursuing a life
of service in the church and for those planning to enter seminary or
graduate theological studies. Based on a foundation grounded in the
classical liberal arts tradition, it seeks to bring the student through
informed study of the Bible and historic Christian faith to mature
development of a coherent worldview whereby they may function well
in the contemporary world.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES
- The student will demonstrate familiarity with significant persons and events in the biblical story of Israel, Christ, and the church.
- The student will manifest an awareness of the characteristics of the various genres of biblical literature (narrative, psalmody, wisdom, epistles, etc.).
- The student will become familiar with methods and principles of biblical exegesis.
- The student will articulate the foundational perspectives and commitments involved in a biblical theology.
- The student will state and explain fundamental doctrines of historic Christian faith as summarized in the Apostles’ and Nicene creeds.
- The student will demonstrate a familiarity with major persons and events in the history of Christianity.
- The student will articulate elements of a contemporary Christian worldview in comparison and contrast with other current worldviews.
- The student will translate passages from the Greek New Testament with the use of standard lexical and grammatical aids.
- The student will demonstrate a familiarity with the work of the minister and an ability to function effectively as a participant or leader in adult Bible education programs.
- The student will demonstrate appropriate word processing skills.
- The student will be able to employ the Internet for research (Google, Oxford Resources for the Study of Theology, New Testament Gateway, etc.).
- The student will manifest an ability to use Bible software to conduct research.
